Role: Vice President of Engineering

About Molecule:

Molecule is a modern, cloud-native ETRM/CTRM platform transforming how energy and commodity trading companies operate. We deliver intuitive, secure, and scalable software that empowers trading teams to manage risk, streamline operations, and gain deep insights into their portfolios—faster and smarter.

Our mission is to bring clarity and confidence to energy markets through technology that anticipates the future of trading.

Position Overview:

We’re seeking a visionary Vice President of Engineering to lead Molecule’s technology organization through its next phase of growth and innovation. This leader will scale a high-performing engineering culture, drive architectural evolution, and harness emerging technologies—especially AI, automation, and advanced cloud capabilities—to deliver exceptional customer outcomes.

You will balance strategic direction and hands-on technical leadership, ensuring our platform remains secure, reliable, and at the forefront of innovation in SaaS and energy technology.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership & Culture

  • Build and inspire a world-class engineering organization that thrives on accountability, ownership, and impact.

  • Foster an inclusive, innovation-driven culture where engineers feel empowered to experiment, learn, and deliver.

  • Mentor and develop engineering leaders and ICs through clear expectations, growth paths, and continuous feedback.

  • Champion psychological safety, collaboration, and transparency across hybrid and remote teams.

2. Product Delivery & AI-Driven Execution

  • Own delivery outcomes—ensuring product releases are predictable, high quality, and customer-centric.

  • Integrate AI-assisted development (Copilot, Code Whisperer, etc.), automated testing, and predictive project analytics to enhance velocity and reliability.

  • Refine agile and lean methodologies with data-backed metrics for throughput, cycle time, and value delivery.

  • Partner closely with Product Management to translate business strategy into a clear, executable technology roadmap.

3. Technology, Architecture & Innovation

  • Lead architectural modernization across cloud, data, and AI/ML pipelines, ensuring scalability, security, and resilience.

  • Ensure robust cybersecurity, compliance (SOC 2 and others), and privacy-by-design are foundational in all systems.

  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies—LLMs, vector databases, and AI agents—for automation, analytics, and customer-facing intelligence.

4. Operational Excellence & Strategic Impact

  • Partner with executive leadership to align technical strategy with business growth, product innovation, and customer success.

  • Define and track engineering OKRs around delivery efficiency, uptime, developer experience, and technical debt reduction.

  • Optimize budgets, cloud infrastructure, and vendor relationships for ROI, performance, and sustainability.

  • Shape Molecule’s technology narrative—internally and externally—through thought leadership in the evolving energy and software ecosystem.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 5+ years in senior leadership (VP, Sr. Director, or Head of Engineering) within a SaaS or data-intensive environment.

  • Proven success scaling engineering teams during rapid growth, ideally within a private equity–backed or investor-driven company.

  • Deep expertise in cloud-native development (AWS, GCP, or Azure), modern DevOps, and AI-enhanced software delivery.

  • Strong understanding of data engineering, real-time systems, and security-conscious architectures.

  • Demonstrated success delivering high-quality, complex products that balance innovation with reliability.

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills—able to influence across executive, product, and customer domains.

Why Molecule:

  • Build the future of energy trading technology—driven by innovation, intelligence, and integrity.

  • Work with a collaborative, curious, and mission-driven team that values bold thinking and technical excellence.
