Job Summary:

As the Data Engineering Team Lead, you will play a key role in shaping and scaling Medefy’s data capabilities. Reporting directly to the VP of Engineering, you’ll lead a team of talented engineers to build, optimize, and maintain our data infrastructure. You’ll foster a collaborative environment that values quality, innovation, and continuous learning, while ensuring projects are delivered smoothly and sustainably.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor the data engineering team in day-to-day operations, providing guidance, coaching, and support.
  • Partner with QA and DevOps to ensure smooth, reliable releases.
  • Oversee data exchange processes with clients and partners, ensuring integrity and security.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, curiosity, and accountability while promoting well-being and teamwork.
  • Celebrate wins, identify lessons from challenges, and promote growth through shared learning.
  • Contribute hands-on to complex data engineering work as needed (approximately 40–60 % of the time).
  • Collaborate with the CTO on the ongoing architecture and evolution of our data platform.
  • Provide mentorship in debugging, optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Champion best practices for code quality, documentation, and agile delivery.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

You’ll thrive in this role if you bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field – or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience leading and managing a cross-functional data engineering team, with an interest in mentoring analysts and data scientists.
  • Hands-on experience with technologies such as Snowflake, dbt, and Terraform; familiarity with Power BI, OpenAI/GPT, and large language models is a plus.
  • A track record of delivering high-quality projects on time and within scope.
  • Experience with agile methodologies and project management tools.
  • Skill in working with third-party data providers and acquisition processes.
  • Proficiency in debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
  • Strong understanding of data engineering best practices and standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
  • Prior experience in a startup or fast-growth environment.

Bonus Points For:

  • 2+ years’ experience in any of the following areas: health insurance, employee benefits, insurance brokerage, HR, telemedicine, general healthcare

Supervisory Duties: Manages the daily work of the Data Engineering Team.

Remote Work Environment:
This role may be performed remotely in a home-office setting. The employee should maintain a quiet, private workspace suitable for video conferencing and focused work, with a reliable high-speed internet connection.
